Aging Does Shit
Why We Lose Abilities and How We Fight Back
We lose abilities without even realizing it. It creeps up, and suddenly, we’re not the same.
We used to jump when we wanted to—like it was nothing. Now? We barely leave the ground before we’re back down. And it hurts.
Dancing all night? Used to be the best part of the weekend. Now? We can barely go 30 minutes before calling it quits.
Jars used to open themselves—remember that? Now, I’m always searching for the nearest tool or a willing neighbor to help me out.
And names... why is it that every time someone comes up to me with that smile like they know me, I’ve got to awkwardly say, “Hi, I’m Andrea,” and pray they say their name? Please.
You might have your own list: stumbling more when you walk, struggling with balance, feeling winded after a flight of stairs, or realizing your flexibility in a forward fold is gone. Or maybe it’s struggling to lift your grocery bags without feeling like you’re about to pull a muscle.
Here’s the thing: I want to make love and climb mountains till the day I die.
I’m 68. And every damn day, I structure my life so I can do both of those things.
I move with intention. I eat well. I prioritize sleep. I keep my mind active. I make sure every day counts.
I strength train three times a week. I do cardio six times a week. And I’m always looking for new challenges—I’ve got rock climbing on my radar this year. I’m even thinking about pickleball.
I don’t know how long I’ll live. None of us do. But I’ll be damned if I don’t enjoy every moment and keep making my future self ready for action.
If you are ready to take action to age better, let’s talk. Here’s a quick starting place. My 14-day Core and Posture Reset. You can always find me at andrea@mighty.fit
